Shuttle Direct Highlights Top June Events in Rome

28, May 2015: Anyone heading to Rome in June can look forward to a number of exciting events, says a spokesperson from renowned airport transfer company Shuttle Direct. There is a host of annually held events and celebrations that take place during the summer months in Italy, and some of the best are happening soon.

Feast of San Giovanni

One the main events for anyone heading to Rome this summer will be the Feast of San Giovanni (Saint John). Held in the Italian capital every year, this event is also celebrated in other cities, including Florence and Turin. It takes place every year on June 24, which is the saint's date of birth, and celebrations are held in St. John Lateran's Archbasilica.

Both religious and secular festivals take place to mark the occasion. One of the main events in the city is the candlelight procession to the church, but there is also dancing, music and a fireworks display. San Silvestro in Capite is also an important site as it is said that Saint John's head is kept here.

Festa della Repubblica

Among their recommendations, Shuttle Direct also suggest that visitors may want to plan their trip to coincide with the Festa della Repubblica, which is a national holiday in Italy on June 2nd every year. It celebrates the moment when Italy became a republic after World War II, and it is a very important national holiday. There is a military parade on the day, and a wreath is placed on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier inside the Altare della Patria.

Feast of St Peter and St Paul

The Feast of St Peter and St Paul is another important event in Rome, held on June 29th. Again, this is a public holiday every year, held in honour of the two patron saints of Rome. Religious rituals are carried out, accompanied by music, fireworks and celebrations.

As well as the three mentioned above, the spokesperson from Shuttle Direct also reminds visitors that this year there are some major music concerts held in Rome. These are all to be held at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle, and include Slash on June 23rd, Chemical Brothers on July 2nd, and then later in July, Muse and Lenny Kravitz play on July 18th and 27th respectively.

As the city is naturally busy around the times of these events, travellers are advised to book their accommodation and airport transfers early.

Krampus creators wanted as early as possible prior to the publishing of a new book

14, May 2015: Santa Claus and Krampus hardly flash into the minds before late November. However, author and artist Drake has been thinking and working on this horned counterpart of Santa for his upcoming book, Contemporary Krampus. According to Mike Drake, it has been 11 months and counting since he had begun crafting this art. Many meritorious artists are involved in this project but there is a desire to fit in one or more, expressed Drake. The press will be approached for a September release from July and this is the last call to all those artists who are willing to contribute in the book. 

Drake is looking for artists with thematic Krampus artwork in their portfolio. It could be anything ranging from a photo, drawing, painting, sculpture to something else. The work should be authentic and express the artist's sensibilities and style. Dimension of this artwork must be within 5x7 and 8x10 inches along with 300dpi pixel resolution at least. Selected participant artists can benefit from a 500 words biography to be included in this book. This is undoubtedly a unique yet thrilling treat for the new artists. It would ideally be a great opportunity for the interested candidates. 

According to Drake, there is space left for just nine more artworks. Based on the number of talented artists out there with Krampus themed work, it would be quite a challenging job to pick a selected few, believes Mike. Through the past decade, the popularity of Krampus is growing really fast. From being a rare mention all over US, Krampus is a widely recognized name. It is evident in his appearance on many holiday sweaters out of the prominent Middle of Beyond. A Krampus movie is lined up for release late this year.
